I'm giving Waimea Theatre 5 stars because it's perfect for what it is - a locally run, historic, small town movie theater. The seats are in good shape, the screen is as large as some multiplex screens, and the sound system is up to date. The best part, though, is the people are so friendly you feel like you're going to a party at a friend's house instead of just a movie.

Must get there early to get good seats, concessions leaves much to be desired, like the old school theater feel to the place, would definitely return for another show.
Family owned business in an historically important building. The theater shows movies that are about two weeks behind the big theaters, but the owners usually choose the best movies to show. The large theater has great sound and comfortable seats and for the price of a ticket, its one of the best things to do in Waimea that doesn't require sunscreen.
I haven't been there (yet). My mom on the other hand has been there with the seventh graders of Cheifess Kamakahele Middle School for a field trip on the last day of school. She said that they had a great time there watching the new movie Jurassic World screaming, laughing, and having fun. Overall this movie theatre is a great way to spend your vacation time.
Tip one: Arrive a half hour before showtime to grab seats in the two rows of large, comfy chairs that feel like a living room instead of a theater.
