Extremely disappointed that they chose to treat my family with such horrible service. They did not deliver what was promised or what we paid for. Broken appliances, untimely or no repairs, and awful customer service. Do yourself a favor and book these properties through VRBO.
For Big Island trips, I highly recommend Volcano National Park and Waipio Valley. Downtown Hilo was also beautiful - plenty of organic food markets, shops and antique stores. And the farmers market in the town of Waimea is a great way to spend a Saturday morning if you like good live entertainment, delicious locally grown food and candies.
Everything went smooth from the time we made our reservations to check in and check out. Really friendly and professional local staff. We had a great vacation at South Kohala!!!
When I finally got in touch with Terry, she was very defensive and seemed unwilling to do anything besides ask housekeeping. I asked her to contact the people who checked in after me to see if the laundry was still there. She said she would call me back the next morning. She never called back. A week later I called her and she gave me a bogus excuse that the laundry must have gotten mixed up with linens and is at the linen company. Sounds like a good excuse, except our linens were on our bed and the towels were left in the bathtubs per our checkout instructions. In order for the laundry to get mixed in with the linens or towels housekeeping would have had to take my clothes out of the dryer. When I told Terry this she became extremely irate and irrational. She threatened to hang up the phone and stop searching for my belongings because I was insinuating that her housekeeping team took the belongings. I again explained how my stuff had to have been in their possession at some to have left the premises. When I told her I thought her housekeeping was responsible, she refused to listen and ended the conversation. If she had thought the situation through, she would have realized that it was impossible for her housekeeping crew NOT to have come in contact with my property.
I stayed in Mauna Lani Point unit 204H for 8 nights. My group also rented 2 other properties for 8 nights, spending around 20k+ for the week.
When leaving the property we left it exactly as instructed, with all linens on the beds and all towels in the bathtubs. I accidentally left a load of laundry in the dryer. I took photos of everything when I left, so I actually have photo evidence that my clothes were in the dryer. When I called to ask if they had found it they said no. I called back a few days later, and still housekeeping had not turned in my belongings. I was told to talk to the manager, Terry, but she wouldn't be in until a few days later.
I just had the most incredible vacation of my life. My family rented Kolea 8, an oceanfront home located right by the Waikoloa resort. We arrived in Hawaii after a pretty nightmarish flying experience, and it was like walking into heaven when we arrived in our gorgeous home with the beautiful ocean just steps away. The home has an infinity pool and hot tub right on the water, and the sunset views are phenomenal.
Great selection of properties and amazing customer service! The folks at South Kohala were great from the booking process all the way through. The Waiula'ula condos at the Mauna Kea were perfect for my family and a great value compared to staying in the hotel. Next year we will be sure to book again with our new friends at South Kohala Management.
The kitchen is large and modern, the bed rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, and there is also a large at home movie theatre. The house is directly on the ocean and is a short walk away from A-Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, especially if you hike farther south towards the smaller, less travelled sandy beaches. The Lava Lava Lounge is located right in the sand on the beach and has one of the best happy hour menus I have ever seen.
South Kohala Management was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful in selecting the right home for our family vacation. We are already planning our return trip in the spring.
I was treated disrespectfully throughout the entire process from renting from Mauna Lani Properties. We had multiple issues with our condo including a broken AC, broken dishwasher, no beach pass and more. We were left to feel as though we were a hassle even though we were paying customers. Never again will I rent from South Kohola Management. They treat their clients as a nuisance and don't care to resolve any issues after payment has been received.
