Truly beautiful with iconic views throughout. When we went, the ranger made sure full holes were empty between parties so it felt open and private. Though the cashier hinted at conditions by telling us we could get a "wind check", we were unprepared for the gale conditions on the course. The greens are protected by numerous and steep traps and are hard for balls to hold. With 2 and even three club differences depending on the prevailing wind, it was hard to really challenge the course. I would come again, despite the expense if conditions were calm. It is a lovely setting.
Beautiful course but very difficult for a 16 handicapper like me. Staff were helpful and good. Course is great condition but very challenging for average golfer.
Great course and a serious test of golf
I would have given it a 1 star but the views are fantastic. The greens are beautiful but very challenging as is the course with a lot of hills. I think the drink cart retires at 2pm. No towels on the golf ball washers which are few and far between. No place to fill up your water bottle so you have to use the plastic ones provided. I got "interrogated" both at the security gate and the at the golf parking lot as to why I was there. The staff in general have attitude. I'm glad I'm not a property owner at the Mauna Kea because for what they must pay for maintenance they aren't getting value. Definitely pricy for what you get, but like my wife says, it keeps the riff-raff like me from coming back.
An excellent layout! Very nice course, but challenging with a lot of bunkers.
