This beach is a hidden gem on the big island. If you're looking for an isolated, sandy beach that is open to the public, this is the place for you. It truly feels like paradise.
The ocean here though is full of life, fish of all colours and it is a must to bring the snorkel gear.
Beach conditions change daily - can be almost perfectly sandy one day and quick rocky the next. Not great for body surfing but the snorkeling is good.

Please note that there are no services here except a small public bathroom. On the day we went, the parking lot ($5) was full, but the beach didn't feel crowded at all. There are enough trees and driftwood lying around on the beach that it's easy to find a private and shady spot.
Great place to take the baby. Lots of shade for when it's really hot and the water is beautiful. We go there often! Perfect for a quick dip in between activities
The beach itself has some open spots, and many areas of cooled lava which provide a cool landscape.
Don't expect a wide open beach, its more tucked away with lots of stunning trees that provide natural shade.
Part of the charm is that the parking lot will be full but the beach isn't full.
This is a special place. Has a bit of everything. Sand, shade, trees to hand a hammock, showers, washrooms, etc.
One of the best surf spots on the island. The left is perfect. The reef hungry but if your an expert it is the place to get time in the barrel..Neil Youngs old house on the point..kinda cool..and a beautiful cozy beach to relax on after catching the perfect wave..restrooms built a few years ago and close to restaurants and stores..the snorkeling is sweet also.
