Wonderful grounds, open, breezy and wonderful light. Secret tip: there are many small alcoves with great seating and views, a delightful place to sit, enjoy the view and a glass of wine. The beach is very nice. Excellent snorkelling off to the right side of the beach. And you MUST stop and catch the sunset
We spent the first part of a 2 week trip here. I don't recommend staying here if you have small kids. The long walk to and from your room gets old quick. Food is so so and service could be better. Very impressive lobby, beach and pool area. We won't stay here again, however.
We are staying during the renovation and it's been fairly quiet, woke to ocean sounds and beautiful views. At night the grounds are really dark so it was fun getting around and finding our room in the one tower that is open. The rooms are dated but very nice and most staff have been friendly. Feels a bit like staying at a tropical Overlook Hotel (from the Shining). Will update review after we depart!
Decent amenities and service. Good location on one of the big islands best beaches. Currently undergoing much needed "renovations". The overall feel of the hotel is that of an old childhood home to which you have returned to after 15-20yrs, still good but run down. Should be a great stay in a few years but can't say I'd recommend it if you were looking for more than a place to crash and maybe play a round or two of golf.
Hapuna Beach Resort in Big Island is under major construction/renovation, there are no hotel front door/front lobby/pool/view/dining/valet parking/AC at all. Noisy construction trucks are in and out the site. Hotel staffs are reduced to just one or two, so no response from receptionist. Due to the reduced staff on-site, no valet parking staff at bell desk in the evening. This hotel is a big mess and definitely not ready to open to public tourists at all. One family before me cannot open his room door because of damaged room card and my room AC cannot work at all. All tourists arrive under big shock as this is not like a hotel but a dirty/noisy construction site. Although all these problems, the hotel front desk staff still demands customer for paying resort fee, USD $31.25 per night. This hotel should be closed completely until fixing all these major problems. BEWARE, DO NOT BOOK Hapuna Beach Resort in Big Island.
