If you're okay with off the grid living this place is amazing. There's no cell service (though there is a pay phone nearby) and no tv. The cabin is heated by a wood burning furnace. There is a water heater for showers and dishes and a small stove and fridge as well as a microwave and a coffee pot. The bed is pretty comfortable and the surrounding area is beautiful. It's a 30 minute drive up the mountain to the cabin once you get used to the road. You can purchase firewood in the town of Waimea. There's no humidity up there and it's often a few degrees cooler. It gets cold at night, we stayed in June and we were chilly. Overall totally worth it.
My wife and I stayed here 3 nights for our honeymoon and we're not happy with the quality of service. Upon arrival, I was told that the hot water heater pilot was not lit and the previous guests already complained. I was promptly given matches and a crash course on lighting it. I should have made more of an issue at this point. After trying to light it, we spent the next couple days calling and complaining about it not working. I don't feel like walking around in the mud fixing their appliances and paying a ton of money at the same time. After at least 3-4 calls, we finally came time to checkout and complained in person. I was told that they have issues getting contractors to work up there or some excuse. How is this my problem? Pay them more or don't advertise having hot water. I was also told that I would receive some money back on our credit card statement. That never happened. I received nothing back in return. Stay away from these rustic cabins unless you are fine with broken appliances with no real service.
